Billing

Insurance and billing

Chiropractic coverage varies enormously between plans — some give you unlimited visits, some give you twelve a year, some want a referral, some pay nothing. We find out which yours is before you owe anything.

How it works here

Six steps, and the first one happens before you arrive.

  • Give us the details when you book

Plan name, member number and the subscriber's date of birth. We check your chiropractic benefits before you arrive, not after you have been treated.

  • We tell you what you actually owe

Deductible, co-pay, visit limit and whether a referral is needed — in a sentence, before your first appointment. If your plan pays nothing for chiropractic, we will say so and quote you the self-pay fees instead. Those are the same fees printed on the fees page.

  • Visit limits are real

Plenty of plans cap chiropractic at somewhere between eight and twenty visits a year. We track yours and tell you when you are getting close, because running out halfway through a course of care without warning is a miserable way to find out.

  • Car accidents are billed differently

If you were injured in a motor vehicle collision in New York, no-fault insurance usually covers treatment rather than your health plan. It has its own forms and its own deadlines, some of them short. Tell us at the first visit and we will handle the paperwork with you.

  • Work injuries are different again

A workers' compensation case needs a claim number and authorisation, and the reporting is its own job. Bring whatever your employer has given you to the first appointment.

  • No surprise bills

If something is not covered, you hear about it before it happens and not on a statement six weeks later. Nobody here will treat you with something your plan excludes without telling you first what it costs.

What to have ready

Bring these to your first appointment

  • Your insurance card, or the plan name and member number.
  • The subscriber's date of birth, if the policy is not in your name.
  • A claim number, if this is a car accident or a work injury.
  • Anything your employer has given you, for a work injury.
  • The name of any attorney representing you, if there is one.
  • A list of your medications — a photograph of the boxes is fine.

If you have none of the above, come anyway. We will see you, quote you the self-pay fees, and sort the billing out afterwards — nobody is turned away over paperwork.

Questions

Insurance — the questions we are asked most

Do you take my insurance?

We are in network with most major plans. Give us your plan name, member number and the subscriber's date of birth when you book and we will check your chiropractic benefits before you arrive rather than after you have been treated. If your plan pays nothing for chiropractic we will say so and quote you the self-pay fees from the fees page instead.

Do I need a referral from my doctor?

Not legally — chiropractors are primary-contact practitioners in New York and you can book directly. Some insurance plans want a referral before they will pay even though the law does not require one, which is a different question and worth one telephone call to your insurer before your first visit. We will see you either way.

What is a visit limit?

Plenty of plans cap chiropractic at somewhere between eight and twenty visits a year, regardless of what you need. We track yours and tell you when you are getting close, because running out halfway through a course of care with no warning is a miserable way to discover it. Knowing the number changes how we plan from the start.

I was in a car accident. Is that different?

Yes, substantially. In New York, injuries from a motor vehicle collision are generally covered by no-fault insurance through the vehicle's policy rather than by your health plan, regardless of who caused the crash. It has its own claim form with a short filing deadline. Tell us when you book. The auto accident care page goes through it.

I hurt myself at work. What do I need?

A claim number and authorisation, which normally come through your employer. Report the injury to them in writing first and keep a copy, then bring whatever they give you to the first appointment. We will still see you without it and sort the billing afterwards, but having it makes everything faster. The work injury care page goes through it.

Will I get a surprise bill?

Not from us. If something is not covered you hear about it before it happens rather than on a statement six weeks later, and nobody here will treat you with something your plan excludes without telling you first what it costs. If a balance does end up owing, we will explain exactly where it came from.

A fee agreed before the visit, not after it

Book an appointment

Pick a chiropractor and an hour from the calendar — it shows only the times each of them genuinely has free. A first visit is a full hour and costs $95 for the examination on its own, or $145 if we treat you at the same appointment. You decide which after the examination, not before.
